Abstract

This is an interview by the Erasmus Journal for Philosophy and Economics with Kasper Lippert-Rasmussen, Xavier Ramos, and Dirk Van de gaer, conducted as part of a roundtable on the philosophy and economics of discrimination and inequality. The interview covers the concepts of discrimination and inequality; the current state of the literature on measuring discrimination and inequality; the relevance of measuring discrimination and inequality for policymaking; and the future of measuring discrimination and inequality.

Author Biographies

Kasper Lippert-Rasmussen, Aarhus University, Denmark

Kasper Lippert-Rasmussen is professor of philosophy at the department of Political Science at Aarhus University. He works in political philosophy, and has conducted extensive research on discrimination, egalitarianism, and fairness. Presently, he is the director of the Centre for Experimental-Philosophical Studies of Discrimination funded by the Danish National Research Foundation.

Xavier Ramos, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Spain

Xavier Ramos is professor of economics at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.  He is a research fellow of IZA and founding member of EQUALITAS (Economics of Inequality and Poverty Analysis). His research focuses on economic inequality and poverty. He is currently working on equality of opportunity, intergenerational mobility, and public policy evaluation.

Dirk Van de gaer, Ghent University, Belgium

Dirk Van de gaer is professor of microeconomics and public economics at the department of Economics at Ghent University. His research focuses on inequality of opportunity, dynamic aspects of income inequality and income mobility, inheritance and wealth inequality, as well as optimal taxation.
